n subjects can be elected in the various courses to replacesuch as may not appeal to the student in his chosen profession.These are termed options, and are found in the schedule of thecourse. DEGREES. The University is empowered to grant the customary scho-lastic degrees, which, m the College of Engineering are, Bach-elor of Science, (B. S.), Civil Engineer, (C. E.), Mechanical En-gineer, (M. E.), Electrical Engineer, (E. E.), Engineer of Mines,(E. M.). and also those of Municipal Engineer, Sanitary Engi-neer. Chemical Engineer, and Architect, but aims to bestow themon the deserving only. Such honors are not for sale, but mustbe earned and merited. The management accepts grades ofequal value from other institutions of learning, yet the applicantfor a degree is required to do a reasonable portion of his workhere. No diploma is granted on grades madewholly in otherinstitutions. No student carrying more than two subjects will be ex-cused from the Final Examination during his Senior Term.

Every candidate for a degree must prepare a thesis uponsome technical or scientific studj-, which lies within the field ofthe degree sought, and may either be designing, construction,testing or research, and if the latter a minimum of 5000 wordswill be required. The same to be selected with the approval of theprofessor-in-charge. . M jjIjjS^- 1 PORTION OF THESISThe form of the finished thesis must be in accordance withthe requirements of the department and the library and be de-posited with the Dean at least one term before the conferring ofthe degree. SEMINARY. Weekly conferences on current engineering events and discus-sion of engineering papers. It shall be the aim of those in chargeto have a critical study of senior theses made at this time.
