Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Caldarvan Station The place-name appears (as Kaildaruan) in the Atlas of Scotland that was published by Joan Blaeu in 1654, and which was based on surveying work carried out by Timothy Pont in the 1580s-90s.

Caldarvan Station, whose site is now occupied by the houses shown here, was a stop on the old Balloch to Stirling railway line (properly, the "Forth and Clyde Junction Railway"), which was used by passengers from 1856. The line as a whole closed to passengers in the 1930s (although parts of it remained in use by passengers for a little longer); the section of the line shown here was closed to freight in 1959.

For further information on the railway line, see: http://www.railbrit.co.uk/Forth_and_Clyde_Junction_Railway/frame.htm
