Português: Calca-mar Pelagodroma marina hypoleuca (Webb, Berthelot and Mouquin-Tandon 1841) Calca-mar, Pelagodroma marina hypoleuca (Webb, Berthelot and Mouquin-Tandon 1841). Ave marinha de pequeno porte, caracterizada por ter patas compridas. O seu voo é peculiar, com balanços de lado a lado como se fosse um pêndulo, batendo, por vezes, levemente com as patas na superfície da água do mar, como se desse pequenos saltos. Esta característica provavelmente deu origem ao seu nome português: Calca-mar. Ocorre apenas nas ilhas Selvagens, escavando os seus ninhos nas áreas com solo arenoso. Apresenta uma população bastante numerosa, que na Selvagem Grande ronda, em 2015, os 36.000 casais. A colónia da Selvagem Grande representa o limite norte da sua distribuição mundial, estando presente entre os meses de dezembro e agosto. A subespécie P. m. hypoleuca é endémica da Macaronésia, estando presente apenas nos arquipélagos da Madeira e das Canárias. Distingue-se pelo tamanho, pelo seu bico mais curto e pela coloração mais escura do dorso cinzento e da cabeça. Alimenta-se de pequenos camarões, pequenos peixes e plâncton, que captura através de mergulhos pouco profundos ou à superfície da água. |
