Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Caisteal Chaifinn The MacDougalls of Dunollie once held sway on Lismore and oversaw the construction of this castle in the 13th century, believed to be on the site of a previous Viking fortress. Certainly, the name indicates a Scandinavian origin and oral tradition refers to a Viking Jarl called Coiffin and paints the picture of a typical Norse prince - "his galley was never at rest and rust never stained his sword".
