English: Cairnholy 1 chambered cairn This is the crescent shaped courtyard facade of a neolithic chambered cairn. The mound covering the chamber behind the two central uprights would originally have been much bigger but the stones have been robbed over the centuries for adjacent drystane dykes. It has been suggested the structure was designed to resemble a woman in childbirth. |
