A slender young fruit tree is planted into a mound of dirt, labeled, attached to a stake, and surrounded by a cylindrical mesh cage. The bark is painted white.

The bareroot fruit trees are planted into soil mounds, staked, painted, caged, and headed (pruned at the top) to shape their growth.
