DescriptionCaert van't Landt van d'Eendracht (detail showing Houtman Abrolhos).jpg |
This is an image showing detail of the National Library of Australia's copy of Hessel Gerritsz' 1627 map of the north west coast of Australia entitled "Caert van't Landt van d'Eendracht". This detail shows a feature labelled "Fr. Houtman's abrolhos"; this is significant because it represents the first known use in print of the name of the Houtman Abrolhos, although not the first time this archipelago was charted. |
