Notes Leaving London in late 1841, the forty-five year old cabinetmaker and carpenter, Josephus Hargreaves, arrived with his family in Nelson early in 1842. Forgetting his design manuals, Hargreaves seems to have had no preconceived plan, constructing, inventing and adding as he proceeded, all of which adds to the naïve charm of the combination chest on stand and chiffonier.
