Connolly Station

Dublin Connolly, commonly called Connolly station is one of the main railway stations in Dublin and is a focal point in the Irish route network.

Opened in 1844 as Amiens Street Station, the ornate facade has a distinctive Italianate tower at its centre. On the north side of the River Liffey, it provides intercity and commuter services to the north, north-west and south-east. The north-south Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) service also passes through the station.

One thing that annoys me about the station is that there was once a direct entrance from the street to the suburban services platforms but this no longer exists an intending passengers now have to pass through the main station.

Connolly Station on Amiens Street is on the northside of the city centre, about 1km from O'Connell Bridge and serves the North, North West and South East: 

   Belfast via Drogheda and Dundalk
   Sligo
   Rosslare Europort via Wicklow and Wexford
   DART Local suburban rail servicess [Howth/Malahide to and from Bray/Greystones]
   Commuter services to Maynooth
   Commuter services to Drogheda
Connolly Station is virtually opposite Bus Áras, the main bus station for regional and long distance buses. It is served by the 747 bus from the aiport. The red line of the LUAS tram system connects Connolly and Heuston stations.
