Nederlands: Mondharp. Mondharpen behoren tot de oudste instrumenten ter wereld en hebben tradities op de meeste continenten (Sadie 1984: 326). Het gebruik van de mondharp is veelzijdig. Zo gebruiken verliefde paren in Zuidoost Azië bij gesproken communicatie dit instrument als kunstmatige stem of stemmasker. Het wordt ook gebruikt voor ritmische doeleinden. In Indo-Europese tradities (inclusief West-Europa) wordt de mondharp vooral melodisch gebruikt en in dansmuziek (Sadie 1984: 327).
Een bespeler houdt het uiteinde van het frame vast en plaatst het tegen de tanden. Vervolgens wordt de lamel met de wijsvinger aangeslagen waardoor hij, en de lucht eromheen, trilt. De vorm van de mond versterkt en beïnvloedt het geluid. Door de stand van de mond, kaak, lippen en tong te veranderen, wordt het geluid beïnvloed (Sadie 1984: 326). De bamboe mondharp wordt anders bespeeld dan het ijzeren type. Met een touwtje trekt hij aan het uiteinde van de mondharp, waardoor de lamel begint te trillen en geluid produceert (Sadie 1984: 326). Ook al bestaat de mondharp al lang, hij wordt door nieuwe generaties gebruikt in allerlei vormen van hedendaagse muziek (Sadie 1984: 327).. Zeven mondharpen van bamboe |
