English: Water gate of fort New Victoria
Nederlands: Repronegatief. De stadjes in de Molukken hadden diverse elementen die aan een Nederlandse stad deden denken. Zo waren er vaak poorten die op stadspoorten leken. Bovendien bestond er vanaf de 17e eeuw een categorie ingezetenen die met de naam 'burgers' werd aangeduid, een term die ook aan een stad doet denken. De burgers of vrijburgers waren onder meer Nederlanders die niet (meer) in dienst van de VOC waren, maar de categorie was veel ruimer. De foto laat de waterpoort van het fort Nieuw Victoria zien. De basis van het fort was een Portugese vesting uit de 16e eeuw die in 1605 door de Nederlanders was bezet en toen werd omgedoopt tot Victoria. Na ingrijpende veranderingen werd dat Nieuw Victoria.
