Nederlands: Lesplank voor gebruik in een Koranschool. Op Koranscholen leren kinderen de Koran te memoriseren en op te schrijven. De Koranteksten worden ingestudeerd door ze met inkt uit te schrijven op een lesplank. Na iedere les wordt de plank voor hergebruik klaargemaakt door de geschreven tekst in een speciaal hiervoor bestemd vat af te wassen. Het water uit dit vat wordt voor rituele doeleinden gebruikt of op rituele wijze afgevoerd.
De schrijfplank is aan beide kanten beschreven. De tekens op de voorzijde van het bordje vormen het Arabische alfabet. De achterzijde is beschilderd met diverse teksten en motieven. Het centrale motief op het bord is een achtpuntige ster, ofwel een Salomonszegel. De Salomonszegel (khatim sulayman) is als zespuntige ster een bekend motief (waarschijnlijk van joodse oorsprong) in het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika. In Marokko wordt de term ook gebruikt voor de achtpuntige ster, een veelvoorkomende decoratieve vorm. De zegel van Salomon heeft naast een artistieke ook een magische betekenis; Salomon is een profeet in de islam die bekend staat om zijn magische krachten. Maar de achtpuntige ster wordt in de Marokkaanse traditie ook geassocieerd met de zon of de vier windrichtingen en daarmee met Mekka. Binnenin de zegel is een mihrab (een gebedsnis) afgebeeld met daarin een moskeelamp en een Korantekst, vermoedelijk al-Fatiha. Het centrale motief wordt geflankeerd door kleinere motieven van bloemvazen en kalligrafische teksten. De kalligrafische teksten zijn in vierkant Kufi-schrift en bevatten de spreuk 'Baraka Mohammed", ofwel de "de zegen van Mohammed". Deze tekst/motief is typerend voor Marokkaanse objecten. Geheel boven zijn twee grotere motieven te vinden. Rechts een ovaal met daarin een Korantekst. Links is het handje van Fatima afgebeeld, met daarin een oog als verwijzing naar de afweerfunctie van het symbool van de hand. Het handje van Fatima is een bekend afweermiddel tegen het boze oog, ofwel de vernietigende kracht die uitgaat van de jaloerse blikken van andere mensen. In Marokko is de hand een veelgebruikt motief dat al sinds de oudheid, ver voor de komst van de islam, gebruikt werd. Op de vingers en op de pols van de hand zijn wederom Koranteksten geschreven. |
