Nederlands: Foto. Ook Celebes heeft, net als verschillende andere eilanden in de Archipel, bergen in het binnenland. Daar ontspringen een aantal rivieren die vervolgens naar de kust lopen. Celebes mist echter de grote en lange rivieren die Sumatra en Borneo wel hebben, deels omdat de afstanden van het gebergte naar de kust veelal te kort zijn, zeker in de vier 'armen' van het eiland. Hoewel Celebes een eiland van scheepsbouwers en scheepsgebruikers was, vond transport van mensen en goederen over de rivieren dus maar op zeer beperkte schaal plaats.
