Nederlands: Negatief. Tot ver in de 20e eeuw was zo goed als alle transport op het eiland Borneo over water. Een fors aantal grote rivieren ontspringt ergens in de bergen van Borneo's binnenland om dan naar de kusten te stromen. Aan de monding van deze rivieren vestigden zich stadstaatjes en na de islamisering handelssultanaten, die de handel over deze rivieren beheersten. De Dajaks konden hier weinig tegen doen, omdat ze hun bosproducten en hun gewassen stroomafwaarts naar de havensultanaten moesten transporteren. Daarna namen ze textiel, rijst, zout en andere producten weer stroomopwaarts mee. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
