Nederlands: Negatief. Wat de belian was bij diverse groepen in de binnenlanden van Borneo, was de walian in Noord-Celebes. Het was een religieus specialist, iemand die we tegenwoordig vaak een sjamaan noemen. Dit kon een man of een vrouw zijn. De walians speelden een belangrijke rol bij de rituelen die, zoals in zoveel etnische groepen in de Archipel, gehouden werden ter verhoging van de status van degene die de sponsor van het ritueel was. Iemand die als sponsor optrad, moest zijn dapperheid getoond hebben, in een oorlog of bij het koppensnellen, en hij moest voldoende vermogen hebben om de gasten enkele dagen uitbundig te laten eten, waarbij vooral de aanwezigheid van (varkens)vlees van belang was.
