info Francine Brinkgreve, 20-11-2008: Wie het voorstelt hangt helemaal af van het ritueel waarin zij werd gebruikt. Bij rijstrituelen, in de graanschuur e.d. zijn dergelijke cili’s inderdaad een afbeelding van Dewi Sri. Meestal heeft ze dan echter niet zo’n gezichtje. Die worden juist eerder gebruikt bij figuurtjes die er ook zo kunnen uitzien, maar die bij crematies of post-crematie rituelen de overleden persoon vertegenwoordigen. Of het zijn voorouderfiguren, bewaard in de huistempels. In het algemeen is een cili, als figuur of als motief (zoals op de lamak…) gerelateerd aan het menselijk leven en de voorouders, en soms, afhankelijk van de context, is zij Dewi Sri!
