Nederlands: Negatief. Veel Javaanse landbouwers hadden (en hebben), afgezien van hun akkers, een erf of tuin (pekarangan) rond hun huis waar ze een veelheid aan gewassen verbouwen. Hier staan een paar bomen en andere meerjarige gewassen, zoals bamboe, maar ook allerlei groenten, waarvan regelmatig wat geoogst en naar de markt gebracht wordt. Dit gebeurde vroeger eigenlijk altijd te voet, met een zogeheten pikolan (nu gespeld als pikulan) of draagstok met manden op de schouder, die tijdens het lopen in balans moet zijn.
