Nederlands: Stereonegatief. Hevearubber (Hevea brasiliensis) werd rond 1900 in de Archipel geïntroduceerd. Het werd al snel ook op Sumatra een groot succes en Westerse ondernemingen legden grote rubberplantages aan. Het sloeg ook aan bij de inheemse bevolking; daarvoor gebruikte men doorgaans de term 'bevolkingsrubber'. Vooral in de jaren twintig zorgden stijgende rubberprijzen ervoor dat de bevolkingsrubbercultuur zich steeds verder uitbreidde. Dat werd pas door de crisis van 1929 afgeremd. In Tapanoeli werd het product op een speciale manier bereid tot de zogeheten 'sheety crêpe'. Daardoor was het voor onmiddellijke export geschikt en behoefde het geen verdere bewerkingen te ondergaan.
