[edit]DescriptionCOLLECTIE TROPENMUSEUM Houten wajangpop voorstellende Hanoman TMnr 8-109.jpg |
English: Stick Doll. Wooden wayang golek, representing Hanoman. King of the monkeys in the kingdom of Ngamarta. The wayang is part of a collection of Javanese wajang figures (8-64 to 8-116). The head pin and the rods on the hands are made of bamboo.
This is a Wayang Golek. Here the figures are three-dimensional and largely made of wood. The wayang are further painted and dressed. The upper body, head and arms can all be moved separately. The lower body is covered with a cloth hip cloth so that the stick with which the player holds the wayang cannot be seen. Wooden sticks attached to this allow the dalang to move the wayang's arms. The dalang is "just visible" to the spectator because no screen is used. Wayang Golek is probably inspired by Chinese hand puppets in the first half of the 16th century. It is predominantly West Javanese. (E. den Heeten 2008). Wooden wayang, representing HanomanNederlands: Stokpop.
