Description
English: Stick puppet. Wooden wayang representing Umarmaya. This wayang golek puppet is a figure from the Menak cycle (Amir Hamza stories). He is the friend of Amir Hamza alias Ambyah of Menak and supports the latter in his struggle. His red face is a reflection of his character. He has a somewhat hot-tempered fierce character, which can also be seen in his bulging eyes. But through his closed, small mouth, it still shows his good nature. Such a face often appeals to Western people because of the openness of its gaze. For Javanese, this is really too direct a way of looking that is not always appreciated
Nederlands: Stokpop. Houten wajangpop Umarmaya voorstellende. Deze wayang golekpop is een figuur uit de Menak-cyclus (Amir Hamza verhalen). Hij is de vriend van Amir Hamza alias Ambyah of Menak en steunt die in zijn strijd. Zijn rode gezicht is een weerspiegeling van zijn karakter. Hij heeft een enigszins opvliegend fel karakter, dat is ook aan zijn bolle ogen te zien. Maar door zijn gesloten, kleine mond, blijkt toch zijn goedaardigheid. Een dergelijk gezicht spreekt Westerse mensen vaak aan door de openheid van de blik. Voor Javanen is dit echte een veel te directe manier van kijken die niet altijd gewaardeerd wordt
Bahasa Indonesia: Boneka tongkat. Wayang golek kayu yang merepresentasikan tokoh Umarmaya. Boneka wayang golek ini adalah tokoh dari siklus Menak (cerita Amir Hamzah). Dia adalah teman Amir Hamzah alias Ambyah dari Menak dan mendukung Menak dalam perjuangannya. Wajahnya yang merah merupakan cerminan dari karakternya. Ia memiliki karakter yang agak pemarah dan galak, yang juga terlihat dari matanya yang melotot. Tetapi melalui mulutnya yang tertutup dan kecil, sifat baiknya masih terlihat. Wajah seperti ini sering kali menarik bagi orang Barat, karena keterbukaan tatapannya. Bagi orang Jawa, ini benar-benar cara memandang yang terlalu langsung, yang tidak selalu dihargai
