Nederlands: Negatief. Vergeleken met Java en Sumatra kwam peper laat naar Borneo, maar aan het begin van de 17e eeuw was het toch al aanwezig. Het werd aanvankelijk vooral geteeld door Dajaks in de Hoeloe Soengai, in het achterland van Bandjermasin. De Dajaks verbouwden het op hun erven en op hun tijdelijke bouwlanden (ladang). Te Bandjermasin probeerde de Sultan het gewas te monopoliseren, zodat hij de Europese handelaren de prijs kon zetten. Later werd peper ook in andere delen van Borneo geteeld. Op de foto is de teelt in handen van de Boeginezen (van Celebes) die zich vanaf de 18e eeuw in Koetai gevestigd hadden. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
