Nederlands: Repronegatief. Gambir groeide vooral op Sumatra en Java moest het dus importeren. Het is een onderdeel van de zogeheten sirihpruim, die verder bestaat uit bladeren van de sirihplant, fijne kalk en een stukje pinangnoot. Vóórdat het roken van sigaretten een grote passie werd onder de Indonesische bevolking was het sirihkauwen algemeen. De sirihkauwer krijgt er tijdelijk een rode mond en blijvend zwarte tanden van. Het hier afgebeelde 'gebouw' is nep. Pasar Gambir was sedert de kroning van de jonge koningin Wilhelmina het terrein waar met Koninginnedag een soort jaarmarkt annex kermis werd gehouden. Daarvoor construeerde men tijdelijke, zo te zien nog al Oriëntalistische, paviljoens. De markt gaf zijn naam aan het belangrijkste spoorstation van Batavia. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
