Nederlands: Negatief. Een van de clichés in de beeldvorming rond Indië is wel dat er overal klapperbomen oftewel kokospalmen voorkwamen. In feite was dat sterk regionaal bepaald. Er komt een grote vraag naar kopra, oftewel gedroogd vruchtvlees van de klapper, als er aan het begin van de 20e eeuw een moderne, grootschalige kokosolie-industrie ontstaat. De grootste producent en exporteur blijkt dan Celebes te zijn. Op Sumatra waren het vooral de Residenties Sumatra's Westkust en Riouw die veel kopra exporteerden, maar niet op de schaal van Celebes. Voor 1900 werd er door velen kokosolie voor eigen gebruik gemaakt, wat volgens een eenvoudig procédé gebeurde. Rechts op de foto is het vignet van de Java Motor Club (een soort ANWB) zichtbaar. (P.
