Description
Nederlands: Negatief. Cacao, evenmin als kina, thee, koffie en tabak inheems in de Archipel, behoorde in Indië niet tot de zogeheten grote cultures. Het duurde lang voor het op Java op enige belangstelling mocht rekenen. In feite gebeurde dat pas rond 1885 toen de koffie te kampen had met een ernstige ziekte. Er zijn toen veel koffietuinen gerooid en door cacao vervangen, eerst in Midden-Java, later ook in Oost-Java. Uiteindelijk bleef de omvang van de aanplant beperkt. In 1939 waren er op Java 37 ondernemingen die cacao verbouwden op nog geen 7.000 ha. (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Het cacao-kweekhuis (pépinière) van onderneming Getas, Midden-Java
