Nederlands: Foto. Makassar was een snel groeiende stad tussen 1890 en 1920 en snel groeiende steden zien doorgaans ook hun problemen snel groeien. Veel problemen betekent meestal - zij het met een zekere vertraging - veel politie, om aan de roep om 'meer wit op straat' gehoor te geven. De dame op de foto was in geen geval een vrouwelijke politie-agent, want die waren er toen nog niet in Indië, net zo min als ze er in het Moederland waren.
