Nederlands: Repronegatief. Net als in West-Sumatra en Zuidoost-Borneo zat er in de 'noordarm' van Celebes veel goud in de grond. Het duurde tot de 18e eeuw voor de VOC uitvond waar dit goud gewonnen werd. De Compagnie maakte van de goudwinning onmiddellijk een monopolie. Het graven van goud was een ongezonde bezigheid vanwege de heersende malaria en veel gouddelvers drosten dan ook zo snel mogelijk. Het systeem van gedwongen goudlevering werd in 1850 afgeschaft. In de 20e eeuw was het graven naar goud en het verwerken van de erts in Europese handen een zeer kapitaalintensieve onderneming geworden. Daarbij werd gebruik gemaakt van geavanceerde technieken.
