Nederlands: Dit soort wapens werd gebruikt voor terechtstellingen, maar tevens als parademes en teken van waardigheid.
Volgens Westerdijk (1975: 58-59) lagen de terechtstellingen meer in de religieuze dan in de penale sfeer. De zwaarden zijn prestigevoorwerpen en worden in dansen gebruikt waarbij gevechten worden geïmiteerd door hoofden en notabelen die met hun zwaarden dreigen. Eventueel worden ze gebruikt voor het offeren van dieren (Leveau, 1998:54-55). |
