Description
Nederlands: Negatief. De Molukken zijn arm aan zoogdiersoorten. Onder de paar soorten die er zijn, komen echter wel een aantal bijzondere voor. Dat geldt vooral voor de verschillende soorten buideldieren (Marsupialia). Deze zijn typerend voor deze streek ten oosten van de 'lijn van Wallace'. Op de foto een van de koeskoessoorten (Phalanger). Ze hebben een staart waarmee ze zich kunnen vastgrijpen, een kleine kop met relatief grote ogen en ze leven in bomen. De koeskoes werd druk bejaagd door de lokale bevolking, die het dier graag at. Zoals de foto laat zien, werden ze letterlijk uit de bomen geplukt (vaak ook 's nachts). (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
