Nederlands: Negatief. Waar een stad is, is handel, zowel de tamelijk grootschalige import- en exporthandel, als de kleine handel die de stad van voedsel moet voorzien. Die kleine handel was, net als bijna overal in Indië, grotendeels in handen van vrouwen, maar ook Chinese mannen speelden vaak een rol. Hier betreft het Dajakse vrouwen die met hun waren de rivier de Barito zijn komen afzakken. In dit geval gaat het om vruchten, waarvan een deel (de bananen) ongetwijfeld van eigen erf afkomstig is.
