Nederlands: Repronegatief. Er zijn wereldwijd acht soorten zeeschildpadden waarvan er zes in de zeeën van de Archipel voorkomen. Ze werden van oudsher bejaagd door 'zeevolkeren' als de Badjo's, deels om hun vlees en hun eieren, deels om hun schild. Moslims eten niet graag schildpadvlees, maar op Bali en op de andere veelal 'heidense' Kleine Soenda Eilanden werd het vlees graag gegeten. Dit betrof vooral de groene zeeschildpad (Chelonia mydas). Voor het schildpadhoorn, een product voor de internationale handel, werd de karetschildpad (Eretmochelys imbricata) bejaagd. De karetschildpad is nu een beschermde soort. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
