Bahasa Indonesia: Repronegatif. Di daerah tropis, serangga seringkali lebih besar daripada di daerah beriklim sedang: kekayaan alam tropis yang dikenal. Salah satu contoh yang baik adalah ngengat gajah. Ulatnya sangat rakus dan tidak memilih jenis tumbuhan sebagai sumber pakannya. Beberapa ulat dapat menghabiskan daun dari satu pohon dalam semalam. Oleh karenanya, ngengat ini tidak disukai para pekebun. Selain manusia, burung gagak juga merupakan musuh alami (selain tentu saja orang yang membawanya sebagai koleksi)
Nederlands: Repronegatief. In de tropen zijn insecten vaak groter dan in gematigde streken: de befaamde weelderige tropische natuur. Een goed voorbeeld daarvan is de Atlasvlinder. Omdat de rups van deze vlinder een alleseter is kwam hij vrij algemeen voor. Verder is het ook een nogal vraatzuchtig dier, een paar rupsen kunnen in één nacht een boom kaalvreten. Dit was ook de reden dat planters het dier te vuur en te zwaard bestreden, hoe fraai de vlinder verder ook was. Overigens is de kraai zijn natuurlijke vijand (naast de mens uiteraard, die hem graag in vlinderverzamelingen opnam). (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Atlasvlinder, Priangan, West-Java |
