Treasure reference 2018 T764: three late Roman silver siliquae.

1. A Roman silver silique of Valens (AD 364-378), dating to the period AD 367-375 (Reece Period 19). VRBS-ROMA reverse type depicting Roma seated facing left, on throne, holding Victory on globe and sceptre. Mint of Trier. RIC 27e / 45b.

Obverse description: Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust, right.

Obverse inscription: DN VALEN-S PF AVG

Reverse description: Roma seated facing left, on throne, holding Victory on globe and sceptre

Reverse inscription: VRBS-ROMA

Mint mark: TRPS - Mint of Trier

Date: AD 367-375 (Reece Period 19). RIC 27e / 45b (cf Hx. 260)

Obverse inscription: DN CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG

Reverse inscription: VOTIS/XXX/MVLTIS/XXXX legend in wreath

Mint mark: [S]CON - Mint of Arles, RIC 261 or 291 (cf Hx. 84)

Diameter: 17mm; Weight: 2.19g

Discussion: Three late Roman silver siliquae. These coins appear to be addenda to a dispersed hoard of 63 siliquae found in 2017 which were declared treasure (Treasure ref no. 2017 T909; LIN-CDD02A).
