Iron Age Silver unit

"Monnaies-a-la-croix" type, c. 200-118 BC,

Obverse: indistinct image of a bust facing left

Reverse: Cross with crescents in each angle. In one angle is an oval pellet surrounded by a border (eye). In the opposite angle is an oval in an inward pointing lower edge.

These coins were produced in the Languedoc region of southern France in the second century BC and are, as such, usually attributed to the Volcae Arecomici (and/or Volcae Tectosages). There are very rare finds in this country and only about 5-6 of these coins found in Britain.
