English: KODIAK, Alaska ? Coast Guard Lieutenant Steve Bonn of Northampton, Penn., is awarded the air medal in a ceremony held at Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, here, today. Bonn was awarded the medal for his participation in the rescue operations following the explosion and sinking of the motor vessel Bow Mariner on the evening of February 28, 2004 off the coast of Virginia. Bonn and the rest of the crew of the Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescued six of the Bow Mariner crewmen while flying through the fumes from the remaining diesel fuel and ethanol cargo. Bonn is currently stationed here in Kodiak. He is the son of Ruth and Vernon Bonn of Guymon, Okla. (Official Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer Paul Roszkowski) |
