Description
English: On May 16th 2017, NeuroMat hosted the conference "Mathematical Culture in Brazil: Diagnosis and Perspectives", in which several professors and researchers discussed issues pertaining to the current situation of numeracy in Brazil. Nancy Lopes Garcia is a professor of the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science of the Campinas State University and associate research of the RIDC NeuroMat. Esther Carvalhaes is an analyst in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Claudio Landim is a researcher at the Brazilian Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics and general coordinator of the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad of Public Schools. Fernando da Paixão is a professor of the Gleb Wataghin Institute of Physics of the Campinas State University and one of the main researchers at RIDC NeuroMat. Ocimar Alavarse is a professor of the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo and researcher on educational assessment. Hilário Alencar da Silva is a professor of the Institute of Mathematics of the Federal University of Alagoas and one of the developers of the Brazilian Professional Master's Degree in Mathematics (PROFMAT).
