Title
CLOTH SEAL
Description
English:

A lead two disc cloth seal of post medieval date. Only one disc survives intact the squased and flattened rivet surviving on its reverse. The portcullis design is relatively plain and lacking a crown. The cloth seal is an off white colour and 12.5mm in diamater, weighing 2.58 grams.

Cloth seals were used to mark cloth for commerical sale in the medieval and post medieval periods. One face is plain and the other has a crowned port cullis within a border circle. There is a border inscription, which is now unclear.
