Notes |
Afghanistan: Our "moto-road" from Herat north across the mountains to Afghan TurkestanIn order to reach Herat+ the Herat-Kandahar road towards India, the Russians would have to cross a mountain range between Turkestan's Kala-i-Nao and Bala Murgab, and Herat - on the "Northern Road", projected by a Polish Ingenieur for the Afghan Government but not yet built. This is a typical piece of that road near Chahrshambe village. It is closed to motor traffic, - yet I passed it with a Ford. Photo A. Schwarzenbach |
