Description

A CDF North American OV-10A Bronco, a purpose-built Counter-insurgency (Co-in or coin) airplane that the USAF and Marines bought during the war in Vietnam. Its built to operate out of "austere" forward fields, in military guise had 4 20mm cannon and bomb-racks on two 'sponson' semi-wings angled down from the fuselage at the center of gravity.

You can still see a bit of the no-nonsense approach that made the P-51 Mustang and B-25 Mitchell obvious winners. Thailand bought some, as did the Federal Republic of Germany. The Germans wanted to tow air-to-air gunnery targets with theirs and so mounted a podded tubrojet above the wing...

A dedicated "Coin" airplane seems to demonstrate a lack of understanding of counter insurgency war, as a quick read of David Patraeus' manual would likely show. Cannons and bombs and quick reaction time and the somewhat odd cargo space in the back of the fuselage can be viewed as useful in low-intensity jungle warfare, maybe

Greg Drawbaugh's "Draw Decals" make 1/72 and /148 versions of decals for this scheme. VERY nice decals.
