Title
C96B33.JPG figure
Description
English: Roman Lead alloy priapic figurine, 53mm long and 19mm wide. The figure is very roughly cast and is very stylised, resembling a jelly baby. It has very simple round head with circle eyes and a bump for a nose which is higher up the face than the eyes. He has a simple torse and legs, with a rounded stomach and very exaggerated erect phallus. This is one of a handful of Roman priapic figures recorded by the scheme.

'Other priapic copper-alloy figurines recorded by PAS include those from Helmsley, North
Yorks. (LVPL-D9A6B5), Billingford, Norfolk (HESH-A1B593), Ingham, Suffolk (SF177545),
Leicestershire (LEIC-C96B3330), and Thorrington, Essex (ESS-E6F9E3), although the last is an
accomplished naturalising representation. Images of Priapus are not otherwise especially common
finds in Britain or elsewhere in the northern provinces'. - Sally Worrell and John Pearce (2014). II. Finds Reported under the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
