Summary

[edit]
Description

C1 on a short goods, possibly on the Marrawah tramway or the Zeehan-Strahan line. Guards van looks to be a Grover bogie DG. TGR photo, Ted Lidster collection.

The loco is fitted with an acetylene headlight. The gas producer is on the footplate above the cylinder.

If it is a DG van, then the latest possible date would be 1946 as all five DG's were rebuilt to box vans between 1939 & 1946. Another factor is the QQ ballast wagon - the first two didn't enter service until June 1936.

C1 spent most of 1934 undergoing a General Overhaul and upon release, didn't come near Launceston until recalled in Sept 1938 for another General and boiler change. A year later, in April 1939, she underwent an External Boiler Exam at Launceston. Another General Overhaul was in 1945 when brand new Boiler 228 was fitted which, most likely, would have been fitted with an extended smokebox (as she carries today).
Date Late 1936 to 1946
