Place of creation London: Frederick Warne and Co., and New York. London and Beccles: Printed by William Clowes and Sons Limited. 140p. With four pages of publishers’ titles bound at the end.
Notes Robin de Beaumont’s small square bookplate is on the upper endpaper verso, together with his note: “[1881] originally [1865] Gibbons 7 90 £27” There are advertisements printed on the upper pastedown and endpaper. The upper cover and spine are of green dyed paper. The lower cover is of white paper, now faded. The lower cover has advertisement for “James Gardner Bird Animal and Fish Preserver…” The upper cover is printed in colours. There is a sea shore scene, with beach, seaweed, and cliffs in the background. At the head are the words: “/ Common/ Sea Weeds/ Mrs. Lane Clarke./” At the tail: “/ London: Frederick Warne & Co./ & New York./” At bottom left had side, is a signature “Theo G” and : “Printed in Holland.” Bookseller label/ ticket (white letters on brown background): “/ Blinko & Sons/ Booksellers and Stationer,/ 27, Queen St. Ramsgate/.” This book acquired with the generous assistance of the British Library Collections Trust.
