Notes

White pastedowns and endpapers. Yellow dyed paper over boards. The small square bookplate of Robin de Beaumont is on the upper pastedown.

The lower cover has a list of titles published by Charles H. Clarke, 23A Paternoster Row. It is likely that the printing of the covers was done by “Jas. Wade, 26 Brydges Street, Covent Garden.” This imprint in at the tail of the lower cover. The upper cover is printed in colours. There is a red rule border. It depicts an elephant clutching a young lady. Another lady lies prostrate upon steps in the foreground. Above and below this scene, are the words: “/ One shilling/ The/ curse of Kehana/ by/ Robert Southey/ C. H. Clarke 23(b?) Paternoster Row./” The spine is dived by rules into five panels. Panel two has the title: “/ Southey’s/ Curse/ of Kehana/” Panel four has the price: “/One/ Shilling/” Two booksellers’ descriptions of earlier editions of this work are in a sleeve at the rear. This book acquired with the generous assistance of the British Library Collections Trust. Another copy (probably) of this work is at British Library shelf mark 11611bbb28.
