Text sewn on two sawn-in cords. Yellow paper over boards. Yellow endpapers and pastedowns. The upper endpaper is missing. The small square bookplate of Robin de Beaumont is on the upper pastedown. The frontispiece is captioned: “Fig. 1. Working model of Chaplin’s Ten-Ton Crane. - See page 54.” The lower cover has lists a couple of books in the series: “Houlston & Wright’s Popular Scientific Works.” The upper cover depicts a model steam engine. Above and below the illustration are: “/ One Shilling./ The Model/ Steam Engine/ How to buy, How to use,/ and how to make it./ London: Houlston & Wright, Paternoster Row/” the model engine emerges from a tunnel. On the wheel cowling of the engine are the words: “By a Steady Stoker.” The word: “Stephenson” is on the smoke box. The spine has the title along its length. A paddle steamer is on water in the background. This book acquired with the generous assistance of the British Library Collections Trust.
