Notes Robin de Beaumont’s small square bookplate is on the upper endpaper verso. He acquired the book from John Hunt for £15 in 8. [19]91. On a separate paper slip he has noted: ‘Strangely, Jarndyce has [an] equally good copy. 5th ABA Grosvenor House 6.95 £100! Possibly his [copy] was fractionally better.’ Inscribed on the title page: “Miss G. A. Jones.” On the upper pastedown, the ticket of: “ H. Cleaver [i.e. Abraham Harold Cleaver (1869-1942)], Bookseller, 9 New Bond St Bath.” Yellow paper over boards. The lower cover has publisher’s titles, together with the imprint: “Edmund Evans, Engraver and Printer, Racquet Court, Fleet Street.” The upper cover is printed in colours. It shows a sea scene, with a boy dangling from a rope adjacent to the cliff. The boy looks as though he is calling out to a man seated on the beach. At the head, the words: “/ Ennui/ by Maria Edgeworth/” are printed. At the tail, the price: “/One Shilling/” is printed within a rectangle. Below this the imprinted is in red against a black background. The spine has within a circle a ‘trefoil’ in red, and three small red buds. The words: “/ Ennui./ Edgeworth/” are printed near the head. At the tail, the price: “1/- [one shilling] is printed. This book acquired with the generous assistance of the British Library Collections Trust.
