Summary
[edit]The first U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III to land at Entebbe International Airport, Uganda, is marshaled to its parking space by Staff Sgt. Guy Moore on Nov. 26, 1996. More than 200 airmen have set up operations at Entebbe, consisting primarily of a Tanker Airlift Control Element, or TALCE, which is responsible for loading cargo and servicing the aircraft. Entebbe could become a cargo hub for the possible multinational, military humanitarian operation in Central Africa. Larger Air Force cargo planes, such as the C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III, can land here and unload their cargo, which would then be transferred to the C-130 Hercules for delivery throughout the theater. Nearly 400 military logistics personnel are at airports in Mombasa, Kenya, in Entebbe, Uganda, and in Kigali, Rwanda. Moore is deployed from the 615th Air Mobility Maintenance Squadron, Travis Air Force Base Calif. The C-17 is from the 14th Airlift Squadron, Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. DoD photo by Tech. Sgt. Billy W. Johnston, U.S. Air Force.
