Eulalia Japonica Variegata. Jajwiiica Variegata—A very graceful, tall va- riety from Japan. Its long, narrow leaf- blades are striped green, wnite and often pink or yellow. It throws up stalks from 4 to 6 feet in height, terminated with a cluster of flower spikes. PENNISETUM Japonicimi (Fountain Grass)—A very orna- mental fountain-like grass, with long, narrow leaves thrown up from central spike and falling gracefully. Hardy Bulbs for Fall Planting CROCUS—These are delicate and tasteful in form and varied and gay in color. Until the flowering of the Hyacinth, and through the most changeable and unpleasant of the spring weather, the garden depends almost alone upon the Crocus for its brightness. Plant the bulbs in autumn about 3 inches apart and cover with 2 inches of soil. Cover in fall with a little straw or coarse manure to keep the bulbs from being thrown out by frost. FREESIA (Refracta Alba)—Bears clusters of pretty white flowers of the most delicious fragrance. Early spring. GALAXTHrs (Snowdrop)—This is the earUest of spring-flowering bulbs, is universally ad- mired for its elegant, snow-white, drooping- blossoms. Plant thickly in groups in some sheltered spot, and the flowers will surprise you before the snow is all gone. HYACINTHS—Among all the bulbs used for winter flowers, the Hyacinth stands fore- most. Flowers may be produced by placing- the bulbs in a glass rilled with w^ater or placed in pots or boxes in soil; colors, blue, red, white, with various shades. JOXQUILS—Sweet scented, yellow. It is one cf the early blooming bulbs.
