Description

Español: La Cárcel Publica de San Fernando se fue el principal centro de detención de la ciudad después del golpe militar en Chile. Este recinto estuvo estrechamente ligado al Regimiento Colchagua (actualmente Regimiento de Infantería No 19 Colchagua), donde se registraron alrededor de 250 personas detenidas entre septiembre y noviembre de 1973 y donde hay fehaciente pruebas que mucho de los presos políticos de esa época fueron torturados. Posteriormente la mayoría de ellos cumplirían condenas en la Cárcel Publica de San Fernando. Sin embargo testimonios de ex presos políticos han señalado que a Cárcel no solo se utilizaba como lugar de detención sino que el uso de tortura era también utilizado durante los interrogatorios. Así recuerdan el caso del periodista Archibaldo Morales, quien estuvo cien días incomunicado en la Cárcel Pública de San Fernando, porque era considerado ‘‘una persona extremadamente peligrosa’’. Un ex preso declaró: “...lo vi con vida ese día y me contó que sería trasladado a una fiscalía, pero nunca lo volví a ver con vida, porque en la tarde conocimos que había muerto y suponemos que sucumbió víctima de la tortura’’
