| Description |
English: By Order This rusted enamel sign, which stands on the N side of the road next to the bridge over the former GNR Eaton branch line, reads: "NO TIPPING BY ORDER BRPB". It must date from immediately after the closure of the ironstone quarries at Eaton and the railway in the early 1960s. The railway land was then owned by the British Railways Property Board, who were evidently keen it should not become a rubbish dump. There is now no trace of the Eaton (Basic) and Mill Hill quarries immediately SW and SE of the bridge, which were the last of the many quarries in the Eaton area to provide traffic on the Eaton Branch. |
