Description
English: Built in 1909, this Beaux Arts-style building was designed by Link and Haire to serve as the Silver Bow County Jail, and served temporarily as the Silver Bow County Courthouse when the old courthouse was replaced by the present courthouse between 1910 and 1912. The building features a buff brick exterior, a rusticated stone base, terra cotta rim, one-over-one windows, a terra cotta cornice with brackets and modillions, pilasters with decorative capitals, including sculptures of lion heads, and a simpler rear wing with narrower windows, which holds multiple jail cell blocks. The building is a contributing structure in the Butte-Anaconda Historic District, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
