Title
Butt of toy gun / toy rifle
Description
English: Possibly the butt of a cast lead alloy toy gun of early modern date, probably the 19th century AD . Only the butt/stock survives; the rest has broken away and is missing. The butt/stock is hollow cast, becoming solid at the break, where the trigger guard would have been. The lower portion of the stock has scrolled floral designs on either side while the upper stock, which protrudes from a mouth-like moulding, is decorated with lines and pellets. Toy guns were popular from the late 17th century and some examples even fired.

Similar toy weapons can be found on the database; see for example records IOW-4DEA51,SWYOR-2860A3 and BERK-9FA2F0 and, especially similar, BUC-259462, WMID-E7E371, SUR-DE1421,
